All students are serviced between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 1:55 p.m.
Students should NOT arrive at school before 7:30 a.m. Students will be allowed to enter the building and go to their classrooms at 7:30 a.m. to participate in the Breakfast Program.
At 7:30 a.m., all students line up outside the building to prepare for entry into the building.
Any student arriving after the 7:50 a.m. bell sounds is considered late. Students must report to the Main Office to receive a tardy pass.
Students are dismissed at 1:55 p.m. following the afternoon announcements. We are a neighborhood school that does not provide bus transportation, as all students live within the walking zone. Students will be dismissed in groups first by grade level walkers and car riders, then by after care provider. Please meet your child at the destination agreed upon at the beginning of the year. Students awaiting a daycare van will be held in the appropriate holding location. If there is a change in your child’s dismissal plan, please provide a written note by the parent to the teacher on or before that specific day.
Only daycare vans will be allowed to park in the front of the school. Students will not walk to the cars unattended. Car pick-up is only permitted inside the kiss-and-ride circle. Students will be escorted to their cars by teachers. Please use extra caution when pulling out into the street and parking lot. LATE pick-up is not the responsibility of the school. Please make alternative arrangements for your child’s pick-up in the event of your delay.
When an early departure is planned, please send a note indicating the time of departure. That will enable the student to get his/her class and homework assignments from the teacher. When a parent arrives to pick up his/her child; please report to the Main Office first with your picture I.D. A school secretary will notify the classroom teacher over the intercom. This enables the student to remain in class as long as possible. If someone other than a parent is picking up a student, please ensure that person has been listed on the child’s emergency contact form. They must also have their picture I.D. If there is a custody arrangement for a student, please notify the office and the teacher. As a reminder, early departures end at 1:15 p.m. for all students. It is also advised that these departures are reserved for emergencies only, as they do affect your child’s attendance record and the instructional program.
Delays due to emergency conditions are announced on Washington Metropolitan Area radio and television stations. These public service announcements will be broadcast before 6:30 a.m. and at other times during the day should an emergency occur. The announcements will refer to school closings, one-hour or two-hour delay. One hour delay means school opens one hour later (8:45 a.m.). Two-hour delay means school opens two hours later 9:45 a.m.).
Emergency Notifications, School Closings and Delays
School closing before the regular closing time will be announced on Washington Metropolitan Area radio and television stations. The announcements will refer to a three-hour early dismissal. Three hour early dismissal means school closes two hours earlier (10:55 a.m.). An Emergency Information Form will be sent home the first week of school. Please be sure to complete and return this form so that in the event of an emergency we have additional contact information.
