Parents are welcome to visit the classroom at the specified time as noted. Our policy requires all school visitors to stop at the school office and secure the permission of the principal or designee before going to any other part of the building. This policy includes parents, volunteers, mentors, school system personnel and instructional aides. Passes will be given to visitors when they check in. This policy protects your children from intrusion and disruption by unauthorized visitors.
From 7:45 A.M. until 1:55 P.M. the teacher's attention must be devoted to the needs of their students. Teachers will be unable to meet with parents during this time unless a conference has been previously arranged. If a parent wishes to schedule a meeting with an administrator or a particular teacher, a call needs to be made in advance so that a mutually convenient time can be arranged. Teachers may also be contacted by notes or messages left in the office. Parent classroom observation are from 8:30 a.m. –12:30 p.m. Parents will be able to observe in a classroom for an hour.
Volunteers are citizens who desire to contribute to the program through the wide variety of specialized abilities and talents, which they bring to it. They provide a vast reservoir of talent, which can be tapped to enrich the instructional program. They supplement the efforts of the professional.
District Heights Elementary School needs a strong Volunteer Program. Mothers, fathers, grandparents, and young adults are welcome. Volunteers can work in several areas: Classroom Volunteer, Home-School Volunteer, School-Wide Volunteer and PTO Volunteer. As of January 2007, the Board of Education requires all volunteers that work regularly in the school building to have a commercial background check performed by the Prince George’s County School System.
