September Is Attendance Awareness Month: Small Tips, Big Difference & a Chance to Show Us Why You Show Up!
Every school day counts! September is Attendance Awareness Month, a time to remind families that showing up to school regularly and on time gives students more opportunities to learn, connect and succeed.
Small routines at home can make a big difference in helping students get to school ready to learn:
- Set a consistent bedtime to help students get the rest they need.
- Prep the night before by packing backpacks, choosing outfits and preparing anything needed for the morning.
- Plan ahead and allow extra time for traffic, transportation delays or unexpected changes.
- Schedule appointments wisely and, whenever possible, plan them outside of school hours.
- Celebrate showing up! Encourage your student and recognize their commitment to being present and on time.
Celebrate Attendance: Show Us Why You Show Up!
This September, we’re also inviting students to get creative through the PGCPS Back-to-School Social Media Challenge! Students can share why they show up to school and why attendance matters through:
- A short video or reel
- A TikTok dance challenge
- Original artwork or graphic
- Attendance meme
- Informational social media post
Contest Submission Period: September 1–September 18
Your student’s submission could be featured on PGCPS social media! When submitting, please include the student’s name, grade and school.
