To ensure a very safe dismissal procedure, we are implementing the following arrival and dismissal procedures and safety protocols.
Parents should drop their children off at the top of the hill. Please pull down away from the entrance when you are dropping your child off. Do not stop in front of the entrance because you block staff and buses. Please be respectful to our security and support staff members who are supporting to keep all students safe during these times.
Early Dismissal ends at 2:30 pm sharp! No cars should come on the premises after 2:30 p.m.. Cars that are parked in the front of the school will have to wait until dismissal if buses pull up and block them in. If you, as the parent, have decided that you are going to pick up your child after 2:30 p.m., try to contact the school first so that we are aware. After 2:30 p.m., a staff member will be outside during dismissal to check parent ID information and call the student out if they have not gone on the bus already.
We usually get ready for our dismissal at 2:45 p.m.. Parents should not park in the parking lot in the front of the school or to the right of the building. If your child is a car rider, you will need to legally park in the neighborhood on the street and either wait for your student in your car or in the grass in front of the school. Please be respectful to our security and support staff members who are supporting to keep all students safe during these times. Disrespectful language and harassment by parents will NOT be tolerated. Any harassment of BLMS staff members, will result in a ban/bar letter, prohibiting access to the school for the remainder of the year. Illegal parking, double parking etc can result in citations by Prince George County Police Department.
Dismissal Time is at 3:10pm! Walkers and car riders are dismissed first. These students will exit the building through Exit 2 and meet their parents on the street across the grass using the crosswalk to leave the school premises. Parents should park on the street and meet their children there. Students should NOT leave campus and return to the school after they have left.
Buses are called in the order they show up to the school. Once walkers and car riders are clear, we dismiss bus riders. Once we get an all clear from inside, we release the buses. Parents if your child rides a bus, we must ensure they are on the correct bus. Students are not permitted to jump on buses they are not scheduled to ride. This causes a major disruption and holds the buses up from leaving. If you, as the parent, have decided that you are going to pick up your child after 2:30 p.m., try to contact the school first so that we are aware. After 2:30 p.m., a staff member will be outside during dismissal to check parent ID information and call the student out if they have not gone on the bus already.
Please note the office at BLMS closes at 4:00 p.m. sharp. The building is closed and parents are not permitted to enter after 3:00 p.m.. Students are not permitted to enter the building after 4:30 p.m.. Please follow all arrival and dismissal guidelines above.
Please have a plan B in place if your child should miss the bus! If a scholar misses the bus, they will be directed to contact their parents. Parents/Guardians you will need to provide an ETA of when your child’s ride will arrive and the person designated to pick them up. Please update your information in Synergy, so we can reach emergency contact as necessary. If we are unable to reach you due to inactive Synergy info, or non responsive phone calls, we will have to contact the Police Non-Emergency Number and/or Child Protective Services.
