Week 5 Transportation Update: PGCPS Continues to Make Progress with Transportation System and Address Challenges

Dear Parents,

We are wrapping up week 5 and want to continue to provide you with the latest updates as we make progress and address challenges within our transportation system.

While the majority of routes are running smoothly, there are areas, like Hyattsville, that are still seeing delays because of driver shortages. We are actively working to make adjustments. Our team is committed to finding solutions that ensure timely transportation for our students.

Here are some of the steps that we are taking.

  • New Action Plan: To help reduce delays, we have designated employees, who are currently working in bus lot offices and are also certified to drive, to take on routes in Hyattsville and other highly impacted areas. This step aims to alleviate some of the pressures we are facing and improve overall service.
  • Communicating with Parents: Our team is working diligently to make phone calls, send emails and communicate with families in other ways to address any concerns.
  • Strengthening Internal Communication: We are enhancing our internal communication processes to ensure that important information is shared with families on a daily basis. This will help keep you updated on any changes or developments.

We're committed to making continued progress and appreciate your patience and support as we work to ensure safe and reliable transportation for all students.

New Chipmunk Mobile App Update

We are now in phase 3 of the pilot of our new Chipmunk mobile app and will be adding C, X and T routes this week. The Chipmunk app allows families to track their child's bus in real time. Learn more about Chipmunk.
