Vision

The vision of the DTRE is to support schools, families, community, and district leaders in turning assessment data into actionable insights to improve student outcome results.

Mission 

The DTRE's mission is to provide technical expertise and support for administering assessments that yield high-quality data to improve academic achievement. Through test administration management, assessment data literacy, collaboration with families, schools, district offices, and community partners, and forward-thinking & innovative insights, the department works to ensure all students receive the support they need.

Core Values

Priority 1: Student Success | Powering Real-Time Classroom Support

  • Delivering timely, purposeful assessments (with an immediate focus on foundational math and literacy) to allow educators to modify instruction and implement targeted interventions. 
  • Equip instructional staff with diagnostic tools in foundational math and literacy, giving educators the immediate data they need to adjust daily instruction to help students be on track for CCR pathways or needs more targeted intervention.
  • Protect the promise: We ensure that district promises are met by assuring high-quality, timely, and accurate assessment data behind the data dashboards to track systemic progress transparently.

Priority 2: Staff & Leaders | Fueling Stronger School Leadership

  • We partner throughout the district to help district and school leaders build highly effective teams who use assessment data insights and trends to improve support for targeted instruction.  
  • We deliver disaggregated data to help leadership allocate funding, personnel, and programs directly into the classrooms that need them most.
  • We engage in programmatic evaluation to measure the effectiveness of programs and initiatives to support the pivots and/or sustained improvement of student outcomes. 

Priority 3: Expanding Access | Breaking Down Barriers to Advanced Learning

  • Disaggregating performance data to systematically identify and dismantle barriers keeping historically underserved students from entering advanced or rigorous coursework.
  • Championing equity through analytics by providing disaggregated, intersectional data, we empower principals and instructional leaders to allocate resources to the students and schools that need them most.
  • Delivering key research insights to stakeholders throughout the system and community to gain better understanding of our performance trends and programs.

Priority 4: Family & Community | Building Trust Through Open Data

  • Democratizing district data by feeding clean, highly reliable metrics into public-facing data dashboards, reinforcing transparency, and building assessment literacy amongst our family and community.
  • Provide assessment literacy resources and timely communication to help build the home school connection and empower families on how to respond to assessments administered to their child.

Priority 5: Organizational Culture | Safeguarding Responsible Innovation

  • Evaluating the operational efficacy of systemic initiatives, ensuring high data integrity while utilizing AI to improve efficiencies and idealization and committing to interdivisional collaboration.
  • Inform the pivots as our strategic plan hit multi-year milestones, our research and evaluation findings tell leadership exactly what is working, what needs growth, and where the district must strategically pivot.

Director

Laurie Mazelin, Ed.D

Provides overall leadership and strategic direction for the DTRE, including test administration, assessment literacy, program evaluation, test reporting, data analysis for key insights, cross-divisional collaboration, and alignment with district priorities.

Instructional Supervisors 

Test Administration: 

  • Peggy Harrington - E/MS Testing
  • Troy Brockett - HS Testing
  • Andrew Pruski - Internal Assessments

Provide leadership and guidance related to test administration management to School Test Coordinators, including test security, technical support, troubleshooting, assessment reporting support, test development, stakeholder communication, as well as dissemination of results to school/district leadership.

Supervisors

Research and Evaluation:  Carole Keane, Ph.D

We conduct rigorous research at key milestones, identify effective strategies, address growth areas, and guide real-time policy adjustments. Our team also evaluates programs, initiatives, and specialty schools/charters, as well as approving research requests. 

Data Management & Reporting: Vacant

Provide rigorous data management and ethical data guardianship to assure that the assessment data relied on throughout the district and community at large, has integrity, is timely and empowers others to use the data to inform operational and instructional practices.
