Waldon Woods Elementary School Performance Plan

Introduction

In alignment with the goals and priorities of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), the School Performance Plan (SPP) allows for a transparent and collaborative school improvement process with a focus on student achievement.

The School Performance Plan was developed this school year as the continuation of the detailed work and planning completed in the previous school year. The SPP focuses schools on engaging in disciplined inquiry cycles through the use of Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA). Through the successful utilization of PDSA, schools are able to impact student achievement and teacher practice by taking a scientific approach to school improvement.

Problem of Practice
3rd - 5th grade students being below grade level in math, our teachers find it challenging to successfully teach on grade level materials.
This has a direct impact on our MCAP scores due to the fact students are unable to master the skills taught.
Students in grades 3 - 5 are performing 1 to 2 academic grade levels below on MCAP, benchmarks, and i-Ready assessments in the areas of vocabulary and comprehension.
Adult Practice - While conducting formal and informal observations, most teachers are not incorporating small group instruction. Evidence shows that when explicit and direct instruction are taking place in a small group setting, students achieve success. The results of the teacher needs assessment at the beginning of the year indicated that support is needed to deliver small/focus group instruction to our students.

Change Idea
Teachers will focus on impactful small group instruction using the results from dreambox launchpad data. During these small group sessions, teachers will reteach using CIM re- Teachers will use iReady diagnostic data (4th and 5th) or DIBELS (3rd) to plan for small group instruction.
