Sonia Sotomayor Middle at Adelphi School Performance Plan

In alignment with the goals and priorities of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), the School Performance Plan (SPP) allows for a transparent and collaborative school improvement process with a focus on student achievement.

The School Performance Plan was developed this school year as the continuation of the detailed work and planning completed in the previous school year. The SPP focuses schools on engaging in disciplined inquiry cycles through the use of Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA). Through the successful utilization of PDSA, schools are able to impact student achievement and teacher practice by taking a scientific approach to school improvement.

SMART Goals

A targeted

aspiration that serves as the focal point for collective improvement efforts

Specific; Measurable; Achievable; Realistic; Timebound

Math- By June 2026, 15% of all students in Sonia Sotomayor will increase their overall MCAP scores by 10 points.

English Language Development-By June 2026, the percentage of students meeting their growth targets on the WIDA Access assessment will show measurable improvement, with more students demonstrating growth toward language proficiency.

Attendance-By June 2026, the percentage of students who are chronically absent will decrease, reflecting stronger engagement and consistent student participation in school.

Problem of Practice

One problem the school has chosen to address that will assist them in moving toward the overarching Smart Goal

Students are disengaged and unmotivated to succeed in math classes and/or assessments.

Paraeducators are new positions in the building, and we want to define roles and responsibilities to ensure the ML students are being provided support for language growth.

7th grade chronically absent students may not feel that the classroom is a safe space for learning.

Change Idea

A specific, actionable idea or technique that school teams will use to address the SMART Goal

Facilitate math talks in 8th grade math classrooms

SSMS ELD Predicator Guidlines

We plan to offer a "lunch bunch" incentive for a cohort of 7th grade students who are chronically absent.

Target

The AIM set to determine if the implementation of the change idea was successful

Teachers will meet all criteria from the teacher-created look-for document

Classroom visits--we see gen. educators tasking paras with items from the DO list Survey--perception of the contract as helpful or not, needs

n/a

Students will indicate that math talks were engaging and challenging

n/a

We want the 7th grade chronically absent students to reduce their chronically absent percentage below 10% by the end of cycle 1.
