Langley Park-McCormick Elementary School Performance Plan

In alignment with the goals and priorities of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), the School Performance Plan (SPP) allows for a transparent and collaborative school improvement process with a focus on student achievement.

The School Performance Plan was developed this school year as the continuation of the detailed work and planning completed in the previous school year. The SPP focuses schools on engaging in disciplined inquiry cycles through the use of Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA). Through the successful utilization of PDSA, schools are able to impact student achievement and teacher practice by taking a scientific approach to school improvement.

SMART Goals

A targeted

aspiration that serves as the focal point for collective improvement efforts

Specific; Measurable; Achievable; Realistic; Timebound

Math- By June 2026, Langley Park McCormick Elementary will achieve a double-digit increase in students' ability to write effective mathematical reasoning by embedding a collaborative culture. This will involve a school-wide initiative where teachers and students enhance the explanation and defense of mathematical thinking leading to improved student-to-student discourse and overall problem-solving skills.

RELA/ELA-By June 2026, Langley Park McCormick Elementary will increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding grade-level expectations in writing by double digits as measured by the county writing assessment.

This will be achieved by providing a rigorous and engaging curriculum that promotes critical thinking skills across all content areas.

Not Selected-

Problem of Practice

One problem the school has chosen to address that will assist them in moving toward the overarching Smart Goal

Teachers are not modeling mental reasoning; therefore, students do not fully understand how to demonstrate their reasoning when asked to write a response independently.

Students are not writing because of a disconnection to the topic, along with a lack of relevance and interest in writing across all content areas.

Change Idea

A specific, actionable idea or technique that school teams will use to address the SMART Goal

Writing daily to reason through a math problem independently.

Teachers will provide daily writing opportunities at beginning of the day, end of the day, Drop Everything and Write.

Target

The AIM set to determine if the implementation of the change idea was successful

100% of Math teachers will highlight the math problem for students to model or reason in their lesson plans 2-3 days a week.

100% of teachers will provide students an opportunity for a quick write 2-3 days a week.

100% of students score one or higher on the Milestone task.

75% of students will write for 5 minutes, quick write, 2-3 days a week.
