Barnaby Manor Elementary School Performance Plan

In alignment with the goals and priorities of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), the School Performance Plan (SPP) allows for a transparent and collaborative school improvement process with a focus on student achievement.

The School Performance Plan was developed this school year as the continuation of the detailed work and planning completed in the previous school year. The SPP focuses schools on engaging in disciplined inquiry cycles through the use of Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA). Through the successful utilization of PDSA, schools are able to impact student achievement and teacher practice by taking a scientific approach to school improvement.

Problem of Practice

One problem the school has chosen to address that will assist them in moving toward the overarching Smart Goal

In many math classes, there isn't enough focus on reasoning and modeling. This makes it challenging for students to explain their answers using pictures or drawings, as they

Across grade levels a significant percentage of students continue to produce written work that lacks clarity, organization, textual support and conventions.

struggle to utilize these tools to demonstrate or prove their thinking.

Change Idea

A specific, actionable idea or technique that school teams will use to address the SMART Goal

We will conduct consistent weekly focus walks to confidently monitor the implementation of the Concrete, Representational, and Abstract (CRA) approach.

Focus Walks will be conducted bi-weekly to monitor the strategies of modeling and scaffolding of the writing process. The initial focus walk will provide a baseline data to measure the success of the learning walks.

Target

The AIM set to determine if the implementation of the change idea was successful

Seventy percent of the classes observed will provide evidence of using the Concrete Representational-Abstract (CRA) approach in their teaching.

2 of the 3 components under CRA must be evident.

The goal is to have 70% of teachers show usage of scaffolding and modeled instruction.

There will be a 2% increase in Reasoning and Modeling from Benchmark 1 to Benchmark 2.

The percentage of students assessment scores is expected to increase by at least 2%.
