Avalon Elementary School Performance Plan

Introduction

In alignment with the goals and priorities of Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS), the School Performance Plan (SPP) allows for a transparent and collaborative school improvement process with a focus on student achievement.

The School Performance Plan was developed this school year as the continuation of the detailed work and planning completed in the previous school year. The SPP focuses schools on engaging in disciplined inquiry cycles through the use of Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA). Through the successful utilization of PDSA, schools are able to impact student achievement and teacher practice by taking a scientific approach to school improvement.

SMART Goals
A targeted
aspiration that serves as the focal point for collective improvement efforts
Specific; Measurable; Achievable; Realistic; Timebound
Math- By Spring 2026, Avalon Elementary School will improve student achievement on the math MCAP by increasing overall proficiency level by 10% from 19% to 29% or greater. Attendance-By Spring 2026, Avalon Elementary School will reduce chronic absenteeism by 3% (from 35.2% in the Spring 2025 to 33.2% or less by Spring 2026). Not Selected-
Problem of Practice
One problem the school has chosen to address that will assist them in moving toward the overarching Smart Goal
Teachers are not effectively monitoring student achievement in proficiency/mastery of math content. As a result, students are 2-3 grade levels behind on Maryland state standards. Chronic absenteeism at Avalon Elementary School has been a persistent issue, impacting student achievement and overall engagement. A significant percentage of our students miss more than 10% of school days, which hinders their academic progress and disrupts the learning environment. Therefore, absenteeism negatively affects classroom
continuity, student relationships, and their long-term success.

Change Idea
A specific, actionable idea or technique that school teams will use to address the SMART Goal
To strengthen math instruction and improve student achievement, the school will implement a comprehensive plan that includes consistent use of DreamBox to monitor student proficiency. Teachers will monitor student mastery and progress through ongoing assessments and data analysis on dreambox and provide targeted instruction and support differentiated learning across all grade levels. Having established a baseline for truancy tracking last year, our objective for the current academic cycle is to significantly enhance the fidelity and consistency of attendance data collection. This enhancement will ensure that our intervention teams have the timely, accurate information required to deploy evidence-based, targeted support plans for students and families, thereby realizing our
commitment to reducing chronic absenteeism."

Target
The AIM set to determine if the implementation of the change idea was successful
By December 2025, 100% of teachers will use online intervention data to create individual activities/lessons based on their proficiency levels. **90%** of initial outreach/contact attempts are logged within **24 hours** of the absence.

**100%** of students flagged by the system receive the initial targeted intervention within
**3 school days**.

Maintain a **95%** accuracy rate on recorded contact attempts and intervention types across all audited files.

By December 2025, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will demonstrate measurable growth in mathematics by achieving an average of at least 0.3 grade levels of growth as measured by DreamBox Learning progress data.

SPI- Students will meet the following targets: 3rd- 0 to 0.3
4th- 0 to 0.3

5th- 0 to 0.3
**A 3% overall reduction** in the Chronic Absenteeism rate by the end of the school year.

**75%** of truant students in the Tier 2/3 intervention group have a confirmed systemic barrier identified through the new data tools.

**65%** of targeted families begin participation in the recommended wraparound service within 2 weeks of barrier identification.
