Appointed by County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, Dr. Zipporah Miller has represented District 5 on the Prince George’s County Board of Education since April 2022.
Dr. Zipporah Miller possesses international, national, state, and local experiences in education. She has a strong background in STEM, coupled with extensive school based and central office leadership experiences. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Chadron State College, a master’s degree in School Administration and Supervision from Bowie State University and a doctorate degree in School System Leadership from the University of Maryland College Park.
She began her career as a science teacher at Forestville High School, where she also served as a volleyball and track and field coach. Her impact as a teacher was to inspire students to consider STEM fields as a career path. Her classroom afforded students opportunities to experience science in a way that was relevant, engaging and thought provoking.
During her tenure with the Prince George’s County School System, she served in various leadership roles such as Magnet Coordinator at Drew Freeman Middle School, Assistant Principal at Central High School, Program Administrator at the Howard B. Owens Science Center, and K-12 Science Supervisor.
She has also served in the national arena at the National Science Teachers Association as the Associate Executive Director for Professional Development Programs and Conferences. There, she led the efforts in designing professional development to enhance science teaching and learning across the country. She is also an accomplished co-author of two science programs used nationally and internationally. In her current role she serves as the Director for Organizational Learning for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
In her community, she has served as the PTA President for Heather Hills Elementary School, assisted with Model United Nations and the Science Bowl team with Judith P. Hoyer Montessori School, education chair for the Prince George’s County Chapter of Jack and Jill and the Road College and Teachers Matter Ministry at her church. Her passion is to ensure that every child is afforded equitable access to well-rounded educational programs.
